APH 240: INTRODUCTORY PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Lectures, demonstrations, projects involving basic camera techniques
using color slides.
APH 241: BEGINNING PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Prereq: APH 240. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes. Film processing, printing and presentation in black
and white medium. Introduction to basic photographic vocabulary
through problem solving approach. Demonstrations and group critiques.
APH 242: DIGITAL IMAGING I. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH240. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes. Introduction to Macintosh computer basics, followed
by scanning and image acquisition methods. Use of resolution
and sizing principles. Introduction of Adobe Photoshop software
for image editing and creation. Use of storage options and basic
printing techniques.
APH 340: EVOLUTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Survey of photography from its invention to contemporary times.
Significant trends and developments in the medium as revealed
in the work of major photographers.
APH 341: INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH 241. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes.Further refinement of basic skills and concepts. More
advanced techniques. Use of the cameras manipulative mechanisms.
Emphasis on image and idea.
APH 342: DIGITAL IMAGING II. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH 242. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes. Advanced work with image editing and manipulation programs.
Use of more advanced editing techniques including masks, paths,
layers and channels. Introduction of digital camera and video
capture and editing options. Experiment with output methods including
transparency and image transfer.
APH 441: ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH 341. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes. Individual projects using advanced methods and techniques.
In-depth photographic investigations exploring the possibilities
of personal expression.
APH 442: VIEW CAMERA. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH 341. Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of
Classes. Open only to Photography majors. Basic view camera techniques.
Sheet film processing and printing. Studio lighting techniques.
APH 443: COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY. 3 Credits
Prereq. APH 341. Open only to photography majors. Color film
processing and printing. Basic color theory and use of filtration.
Class projects and group critiques.
APH 542: ADVANCED VIEW CAMERA. 3-6 Credits (Max.9)
Prereq. APH 442. Election of more than three credits per semester
requires written consent of instructor. Material fee as indicated
in the Schedule of Classes. Refinement of view camera techniques
and advanced lighting techniques. Preparation of a professional
portfolio.
APH 543: ADVANCED COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY: 3-6 Credits (Max.9)
Prereq. APH 443. Election of more than three credits per semester
requires written consent of instructor. Open only to photography
majors.Use of color use of color as an expressive medium through
a variety of color materials and lighting situations. Non-traditional
use of color materials.
APH 544: EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY. 3-6 Credits (Max.9)
Prereq. APH 441. Election of more than three credits requires
written consent of instructor. Open only to photography majors.
Material fee as indicated in the Schedule of Classes. Examination
of various historic processes and their contemporary applications:
Cyanotype, Gum-Bichromate and Van Dyke brown printing; toners
and hand- applied emulsions.
APH 545: SELECTED TOPICS IN PHOTOGRAPHY. 3-6 Credits (Max.9)
Prereq. APH 441. Election of more than three credits per semester
requires written consent of instructor. Material fee as indicated

Open only to photography majors. Election of more than three
credits per semester requires written consent of instructor.
Independent work in advanced photography discussed in seminar
format. Emphasis on major ideational concerns and development
of a critical vocabulary.
