This course will survey video concepts in history, the visual arts, typography and performance art; video used as a vehicle for personal expression through both traditional and non-traditional video genre. Students will learn how to make documentary, narrative, abstract, computer-controlled and sculptural installation-influenced video with and without the use of audio. No prior video experience necessary. Material fee is required. 322O Computer Art Cr. 03 Prereq: AIN 2220 or permission of instructor. This course is a survey of the computer in art, history, artists' preparations and the practical generation of computer assisted imagery. Paint, printmaking and photographic systems are introduced and their specific media explored. This course is designed to stimulate beginning students to experiment with computer tools as an essential part of their creative efforts. No prior computer experience is needed. Material fee is required. 422O Computer Animation I Cr. 03 Prereq: AIN 3220 or permission of instructor. An introduction to 2-D animation. Students will learn how the computer provides an interdisciplinary studio in which artists can work with graphics, motion and sound design separately or in various combinations. Material fee is required. 423O Computer Animation II Cr. 03 Prereq: AIN 4220 or permission of instructor. This course is designed for students who have already taken an animation course and would like to continue advance study. Students will cover extensive interactive animation, script writing and sound design for the internet. 522O Interactive Art Cr. 03 Prereq: AIN 4220 or permission of instructor. This course will include an overview of multimedia software for visual and performance arts which allow improvised and controlled interactive or interaction between artist, the computer and interactive media devices. The course will provide both background and methodology for students who want to understand and use new media. Students will learn how to and make web pages, CD-ROM's MIDI sound design and virtual reality as art. 683O Internship: Computer-Video-Multimedia Cr. 03 Prereq: AIN 5220, Senior standing and consent of instructor. Supervised field study experience designed to correlate classroom theory with practical work. Students will gain experience under the leadership of a senior faculty member and a professional computer graphics, computer animation, video, multimedia or interactive media business/artist.
